I got a call today from someone who was driving around trying to find a good lake cabin to buy, and mentioned that he had a heck of a time driving down the driveway of one of my listings he found online. Now if you are anywhere in the eastern half of Minnesota today, you are most likely trying to get through about a foot of new snow since last night. And many lake homes and cabins are probably not plowed due to the owners being gone for the winter months.
After I offered to help him try and narrow down his search and email him some lake places that fit his needs, this potential lakeshore buyer told me that he wasn’t quite sure what he was looking for, but he would keep driving around in about a 100 mile radius and maybe figure it out. I certainly hope he has good tires – and lots of time on his hands!
Even though the internet has provided great opportunities for potential real estate buyers to search listings, it is still not nearly as effective as having a knowledgeable Realtor help you with your search. And when you start trying to hunt for lake properties on your own – especially those that are far away from your home – it hardly makes any sense at all to try and do it yourself.
A good lakeshore agent not only can give you direction on the types of lakes and areas that may fit your needs best, but they will save you tons of frustration in the process. And as you scour the internet each day trying to find that perfect place on the water by yourself, those agents will be passing the best properties on to their clients, who will get to them first.
