Another corridor leading north from Brainerd is County Road 3 – branching into County Road 4 just north of Merrifield. A bit less busy than its sister route, Highway (371) to its west, it meanders around a number of popular lakes like North Long Lake, Lake Edward and the south end of Pelican Lake before taking on a new name at the town of Breezy Point as County Road 11, about a dozen miles north of Brainerd. But it probably sounds a lot harder to follow than it really is, and the drive is one that carries you through a scenery filled, resort-like atmosphere from yesteryear around the town of Merrifield.
The community of Breezy Point is kind of a wonder to many. Really more of an overgrown resort, it has now become its own city with nearly 2,000 year-round inhabitants. Resting on the western shores of Pelican Lake, it is a fun-filled atmosphere with abundant golf, restaurants, lodging and recreation. And for those who need an even larger variety of entertainment and boating choices, Crosslake and the Whitefish Chain of Lakes is just a few miles further north.
