Just a few miles to the north of Bemidji lies another popular chain of lakes just outside the town of Turtle River called the Turtle River Chain. Perhaps not as well known as other large chains in Minnesota, it offers connectivity to nine lakes within ten miles of the city of Bemidji for easy commuting, along with excellent fishing and recreational activities. Large, densely wooded lots and sand beaches are common throughout the area, and well designed lake homes that fit masterfully into their surroundings are more prevalent than in other lake areas.
The lakes of the Turtle River Chain are Big Turtle, Movil, Beltrami, Little Turtle, Three Island, Deer, Campbell, Turtle River and Fox Lake. But around the periphery – and woven between the small towns of Blackduck, Tenstrike and Nebish are several other recreationally sized water bodies such as Puposky Lake, Lake Julie, Blackduck Lake, Gull Lake and Rabideau Lake that are still within a 25 minute drive to downtown.
