Breaking out various lake areas around Brainerd is a somewhat subjective exercise. But when you think of Brainerd Lakes real estate, you probably think of Gull Lake and the other members of its chain, since well-known resorts like Madden’s, Cragun’s, and Grand View Lodge have been drawing guests to those premier vacation destinations since before World War 2…as many smaller resorts did before that.
As one of Minnesota’s most sought after lake cabin destinations, the Gull Chain, Nisswa and Baxter – and the many lakes in close proximity to this locale – serve as a model for: “How to build a busy waterfront resort area!” And because of the high quality recreation, top-notch restaurants, and extensive close-in shopping experiences, you will also pay top dollar to find a home or cabin on these water bodies.
The Gull Lake Chain is comprised of ten lakes: Gull Lake, Round Lake, Lake Margaret, Bass Lake, Roy Lake, Nisswa Lake, Round Lake, Spring Lake, Love Lake, and Upper Gull Lake – although some people may argue that not all are truly connected. On the other hand, water also runs between the chain and several other lakes in close proximity such as Lower Cullen, Middle Cullen and Upper Cullen on the north side of Nisswa; Clark Lake to its south; and Mayo and Sibley Lake to the west of Pequot Lakes. And several other popular lakes are located only a few hundred feet from the chain, like Sylvan Lake in Pillager, Lake Hubert near Nisswa, and North Long Lake just north of Brainerd…which extends several miles over to Merrifield.
So, if you are looking for waterfront property on large lakes close to Brainerd itself, the homes and cabins on these waters are all within about fifteen or twenty miles of Brainerd’s downtown and Baxter’s commercial strip.
