Heading to the east of Bemidji, only about ten to fifteen miles away, is another one of Minnesota’s well known lake chains…the Cass Lake Chain. Comprised of eight major lakes: Cass Lake, Kitchi Lake, Pike Bay, Big Wolf Lake, Lake Andrusia, Big Rice Lake, Little Rice Lake, and Buck Lake, the chain offers about 26,000 acres of water for boating and recreational pleasure, and many miles of lake homes, cabins, and other prime waterfront real estate along its shores.

The community of Cass Lake sits at the intersection of Highway 2 and Highway 371, and on the southern border of the main lake, serving as the next largest town to Bemidji and Grand Rapids to the east and west of it, respectively. Resorts and small businesses can be found around the lake chain, and in the town of Pennington on the north side of Cass. Only a short distance from Walker and the ever-popular Leech Lake, the Cass Lake area is a bit less busy – and has lower waterfront real estate prices – than its larger neighbor to the south.

There are several other highly regarded lakes around the perimeter of the lake chain such as Big Lake, Moose Lake, and Pimushe Lake, to name a few. And just a short jaunt further east puts you on the banks of the Lake Winnibigoshish, one of Minnesota’s top walleye draws. You will also find real estate on “Big Winnie” under the Itasca Region, since half of the lake is in Itasca County and the southern half in Cass County.
