I find that Bemidji is one of those places that quite a few people know of, but not a lot of them think of as a Minnesota vacation home destination. Many folks are familiar with Bemidji State University as the northernmost four-year college in Minnesota, but Beltrami County also has 237 lakes that provide rich solitude for some very nice full-time waterfront homes – and a wide variety of second homes and cabins.
With its active downtown essentially on Lake Bemidji, there are plenty of restaurants and shops to explore within the core area of the city along the lake. And the Mississippi River provides additional boating pleasure beyond the 5,000 acre lake.
Older estates and nostalgic cabins dot the east shore of Lake Bemidji, with some of the best sand beaches and level lots you will find anywhere in the state. And paved roads and trails offer a scenic bike trip around the entire lake, with pit-stops and watering holes along the route. The Bemidji Country Club and North Shore Grille provide a relaxing atmosphere for a bite and beverage…by bike or by boat.
Outside of the city you will have plenty of choices for a secluded lake property on the Turtle River Chain of Lakes, or other lakes in the vicinity. To the east of town about ten miles is the Cass Lake Chain, which provides about 25,000 acres of boating pleasure for those who like to spend a lot of time exploring the waters. And there is no shortage of great fishing in this Northern Minnesota hub.
Bemidji offers a great opportunity for lake property owners who are looking for an active lifestyle combined with a charming water-focused downtown – something that many waterfront buyers are in search of.
